What to include in a number-sourcing enquiry: questions and an example

You do not need to know every code or procedural rule before making an enquiry. Explain the task, name the main criterion and say what you have not established yet. The eight questions below help you write a short request and understand the answer to expect.

Choose the number type first

Car and mobile numbers require different information. For a car, state the emirate, vehicle type, applicable category, code and digits. For a mobile number, state the desired combination, preferred network and whether it should be registered to the intended subscriber. Do not transfer car-plate categories to a phone number.

TDRA describes mobile-number portability between operators. Initial digits therefore do not prove which network currently serves a particular number. If the operator matters, state it as a requirement to check; if you do not know it, say so. [TDRA — Porting Numbers]

Eight questions for a short enquiry

1. What is the purpose? A private car, a fleet or a work phone creates different priorities. One sentence about the purpose is usually enough.

2. Which emirate and vehicle type? State them when you need a car number. If the category is unknown, ask for it to be checked. Do not choose Classic for appearance alone without confirming that it applies to the car.

3. Which digits or pattern are essential? Give the exact sequence or a clear rule: “ending 77”, “two repeated pairs” or “digits from my date”. If you attach an example, explain what you like about it.

4. Which substitutions are acceptable? Allow one or two specific variations: a different beginning with the same ending, a close symmetry or another applicable code. Do not change registration requirements merely to obtain a digit pattern.

5. What is the budget? Give a comfortable range and a ceiling. Say whether it should include all costs or only the number for now.

6. When do you need an answer? Name the preferred date and say whether it is firm. This helps planning; it does not confirm that the number can be arranged by then.

7. Have you found an option? Provide its link or public identifier and the viewing date. If you have not found one, a description is enough; do not add a random listing just to fill the form.

8. How should we contact you? Leave your own contact and preferred reply method. Other people’s contacts, documents and verification codes are not needed for a first enquiry.

How to make a vague enquiry precise

“I need a beautiful number at a low price” does not explain what beauty means or where the price limit lies. State the purpose, required combination and acceptable compromise instead. The reply can then be assessed against your criteria rather than someone else’s taste.

For example: “Dubai, number for a passenger car; the ending 77 matters; the other digits are open.” Add your budget and timing. This is an example of wording, not an available product or promise.

How to ask about price

Ask for the offer price and additional costs to be listed separately: official fees, intermediary services and any other applicable payments. Confirm the currency and the date on which the amount was checked. Until the breakdown is confirmed, do not treat it as the full completion budget.

If you have not set a budget, say so and ask which characteristics affect the available options. You do not need to invent an amount to submit an enquiry. Agree the ceiling before the discussion moves to paid actions.

What to keep out of the first enquiry

Do not enter passwords, SMS one-time codes, bank-card details, Emirates ID or copies of registration documents in an open field. Do not attach another person’s documents. The first description needs criteria and your contact method.

If documents are needed later, establish who requests them, for which operation and through which protected official channel they should be sent. A verification code is not proof of serious interest in a listing.

If some information is unknown

Can I start with only the digits I like? Yes. State the number type and explain that the other parameters need discussion. The reply will begin with clarifying questions.

Do I need to know the exact car-plate code? Record it if it matters. Otherwise state the acceptable flexibility while keeping the vehicle and category requirements.

Can I ask for several options? Yes, but set one comparison rule, such as the same ending with different remaining digits. Each option’s availability is checked separately.

How should I describe numbers for several cars? State the number of cars, emirates, purchasing stages and shared digit rule. A separate fleet page supports that enquiry.

Two templates you can fill in

Car: “Emirate — Dubai. Vehicle — passenger car. Applicable category — please confirm. Required — ending 77. Acceptable — different opening digits and suitable codes. Budget — [my range and ceiling]. Timing — [my date, flexible or firm]. Example — [link, if available].” Replace the bracketed fields with your details.

Mobile number: “Purpose — work phone. Required — repeated 8888 at the ending. Acceptable — close combinations. Operator — [preferred or not important]; please check the current network. Budget — [my range]. I need a new number; please clarify the registration terms for me.” The digits are illustrative; availability is not claimed.

What the reply should make clear

Compare the reply with the original request: is the required criterion preserved, which alternatives were offered and what remains unknown? For a particular option, ask for its full description, the date availability was checked, the cost breakdown and the next step.

If an important point is missing, ask one focused question: “The ending matches, but does the category fit my car?” or “Is the stated fee included in the total?” Before payment, understand both the offer terms and the applicable procedure.

Final check before sending

Read the enquiry once: is the number type clear, is the main criterion stated, are acceptable substitutions separated, is the budget or budget question included and is your own contact provided? Unknown parameters should be marked clearly. Do not include documents, passwords or one-time codes.

Send a number-sourcing enquiry. If the task concerns several cars, use the fleet enquiry. If your priorities change, send the full revised wording so the team does not compare options against outdated conditions.
